DO WOOD APES EXIST?

Excellent question. And one that science has been unable to answer thus far. But the evidence is compelling.

For thousands of years, people have reported encounters with large bipedal primates across North America. Some of these sightings have proven to be elaborate (or not-so-elaborate) hoaxes, but many come from credible sources -  anthropologists, wildlife biologists, forest rangers, conservation officers, fishing/hunting guides, and avid outdoorsmen - people who are unlikely to misidentify native animals. These witnesses have nothing to gain (and often much to lose) by sharing their experiences. And yet a brave subset do report their encounters - more than 200 people in Virginia alone - and both the behavior and morphology that they've observed are remarkably consistent.

Sadly, the idea of the wood ape (also called the sasquatch, woodbooger, or bigfoot) is often relegated to the realm of the absurd. There is an overwhelming amount of "information" on the Internet about this topic, much of which is highly suspect when viewed from a scientific perspective. For the newcomer, it can be very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

We've done our best to present a carefully curated collection of high-quality resources for those interested in learning more. Perhaps someday definitive proof will come to light and many of our questions will be answered. Until then, we invite you to review the information contained on this site and decide for yourself.
